The Library provides access to a variety of online resources. These resources provide information, and assistance with your research.

The Library Local Studies staff can provide general assistance in using these resources.

  • Ancestry - access available in Library Only 
  • Cora Num's Website for Genealogists -   an Australian gateway site for tracing your family history
  • Family Search -   FamilySearch, historically known as the Genealogical Society of Utah, which was founded in 1894, is dedicated to preserving the records of the family of mankind.
  • Find My Past - access available in Library Only. Online access to records from Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and Papua New Guinea as well as for Ireland and the United Kingdom. 
  • Internet History Resources  - access available in Library Only. Online records New South Wales 1850-1920 for family history research.
  • National Archives of Australia Family History -   National Archives holds many records in which you might find information about your ancestors, if your family members served in the Australian armed forces or if they migrated to Australia during the 20th century
  • National Library of Australia Family Research -   The Library's collections offer a wealth of resources to the Australian family historian.
  • NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages -   Historical Indexes for Births over 100 years ago; Deaths over 30 years ago and Marriages over 50 years ago
  • NSW State Records -Archives in Brief  -   Research and explore the official archives of New South Wales at  State Records Archives Collection.
  • Old Bailey Online - Fully searchable site containing criminal trials held at London's central criminal court from 1674 - 1913 
  • Ryerson Index - to death notices and obituaries in Australian newspapers
  • Sands Directories -   The household and business information it contains has become a fundamental source for research into Sydney history, especially family history.
  • State Library of NSW   - Includes historic newspaper databases such as The Times Digital Archive and Gale NewsVault.You will need a SLNSW Readers card to access these from home
