A common way of finding out if a relative was in a mental hospital is to check the death certificate. If a person died in a mental hospital or asylum it will be stated on the death certificate.

There are very few records available for the local mental hospital called Kenmore.

  • Kenmore operated c.1894-
  • Surviving records cover only the period 1938-42

NSW State Records Archives In Brief (AIB) are fact sheets and are an excellent starting point for your research. AIB give you brief historical information on a particular topic. For more information on Mental health records see the  Archives In Brief 85 - Mental health facilities - Patient records
